This group has kept a tradition of singing without stopping since it started in 1899. The Kwansei Gakuin Glee Club was created at Kwansei Gakuin ten years after the university was built. This old group has been very important, in making classical music and choral music what it is today.

Over the past than 120 years the club has helped develop a very special group of people who are known for their culture and music. These include composers and conductors, like Kosaku Yamada, Yuichiro Hayashi and Kyoichi Kitamura. The important part of the groups identity is its long-lasting club motto, “Mental Harmony.” This idea has been shared from one group of singers to the next. This belief says that real music beauty comes from feelings and the strong sense of being one group.

This group effort creates the known “Kwansei Gakuin Tone,” a full, deep and unique sound, from male voices that is still loved by people who enjoy classical music all over Japan. Each performance is seen as a part of the choirs growing history and the members work very hard to get the voices to match perfectly.
